Fujian is a coastal province
with a 3,324 km coast line in the south-eastern corner of China opposite the
island of Taiwan. This is
the ancestral province of many of the Hokkien-speaking Chinese diaspora overseas. The
south-eastern corner of Fujian where Fuzhou, Xiamen, Putian, Quanzhou, and
Zhangzhou are located is the province's economic hub. In 2003 this corner of
the province accounted for 83% of Fujian's GDP.

Resources |
Fujian is rich in water
resources and hydropower reserves e.g. there are about 1,000 places where a 500 KW
hydropower station can be built. Has considerable
reserves in gold, silver, lead, zinc, manganese, kaolin, limestone, granite,
alunite, pyrophyllite and sulphur.
Forests cover 52% of Fujian's total land area.
Fujian's timber production ranks third in China and it has 400 million cubic
meters of timber reserves.
